The iconic DCW, or “Dining Chair Wood” forms part of a larger collection of moulded plywood chairs designed by Ray and Charles Eames.
The Eames’ moulded plywood chairs had humble beginnings as an experiment in industrial design using innovative materials and processes. From the Eames’ apartment, Ray and Charles Eames gathered thin sheets of plywood and pressed them against moulds that they inflated with a bicycle pump.
From this starting point, the Eames’ moulded plywood chairs took off, and have become one of the most recognisable and fashionable furniture designs from the 20th century - in fact, Time Magazine went as far as naming the DCW ‘Dining Chair Wood’ as the Best Design of the 20th Century in 1999.
